Threat to mobile security codes

Security codes used in millions of mobile phones have been hacked, experts said today.

They say the breach will allow hackers to read text messages, listen in on phone calls and even make calls on the owner's bill.

Software developed by Tel Aviv University in Israel can allow a hacker armed with a laptop to hijack a nearby phone that has Bluetooth activated in under a second.

"The software that does this is incredibly easy to use," said Karl Feilder of internet security company Red-M.

Bluetooth lets people connect headsets and other wireless gadgets to phones, and comes with almost all new mobiles.
