Tiger Woods married wife to boost image, claims ‘mistress’

Tiger Woods only married former model Elin Nordegren to boost his public image, it was claimed today.

His alleged mistress Theresa Rogers told a friend the golf star confessed that his marriage in 2004 was a sham.

US website RadarOnline reported that Ms Rogers, 48, was involved with Woods when he married 29-year-old Ms Nordegren in a £1 million beachfront ceremony in Barbados.

Ms Rogers, from Florida, is the only one of the 13 women linked to Woods who, it has been suggested, was with him before and after his marriage.

The claims surrounding Ms Rogers came as golf chiefs in the US admitted the Woods scandal was the biggest they had known. PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said: "Up until President Obama, he was the most recognised guy on the planet and everybody thought he was perfect. The realisation that he's not is huge news."

Mr Finchem admitted that he had no idea when Woods will return to golf. His absence from the PGA tour is expected to cost the sport tens of millions of pounds in lost revenue and sponsorship. Woods is taking a break to try to save his marriage, but Elin has reportedly already decided she will file for divorce.

Ms Rogers is said to have tried to get pregnant by Woods. She gave birth to a daughter in 2003 but no paternity test was ever carried out. She was said to be having an affair with a Serbian basketball player at the same time as seeing Woods.
