Londoners are being asked to nominate their city heroes for an award.

Voters can also put forward their favourite capital activity for Visit London People's Choice Awards.

They are part of the BT Visit London Awards 2009, supported by the Evening Standard. The four categories nominated by the public are for best family experience, best free experience, "hottest" music event and a hero who has made a difference to London.

Sally Chatterjee, interim CEO of London's official visitor organisation, said: "It's great to recognise the outstanding contribution by businesses and individuals to help make our capital the number one destination in the world."

Nominations are open until Sunday 13 September and the shortlist will be announced the next day. Judges will announce the winners at Westfield shopping centre on 5 November.
