Tube delays as track repairs drag on

Tens of thousands of Tube commuters were suffering more delays today after weekend engineering work failed to finish on time.

This delayed the start of service to the District and Circle lines between Earl's Court and Whitechapel.

There were also delays for Northern line commuters, due to a combination of staff failing to turn up and a signal failure at South Wimbledon. And the Jubilee line suffered disruption when signals failed at London Bridge.

The District and Circle lines were closed over the weekend between Earl's Court and Whitechapel for large-scale replacement of worn-out tracks. Today LU apologised for the delay.

Passengers on the Hammersmith & City line, using the same tracks, were also affected. Commuters face 11 more weekend shutdowns - including over the Easter and spring bank holiday - the next being the closure of the District and Circle lines on the first weekend in February.
