TV host, 80, rides into the sunset... and falls off

Philbin crashed the scooter in front of fans who rushed to his aid.

American chat show host Regis Philbin may be retiring, but it seems the 80-year-old doesn't plan to slow down.

He climbed on to a Vespa scooter given to him as a retirement gift by fellow TV host David Letterman, only to crash it in front of fans who rushed to his aid before Letterman, 64, settled him safely on the pillion and rode off.

Philbin, who holds a world record for the most time spent in front of a camera, was on Letterman's Late Show in New York last night as part of a farewell tour of other talk shows. He hosted his last Live With Regis And Kelly show, with Kelly Ripa, today.
