Twin, 10, dies after minor scooter injury

A 10-year-old twin boy has died three days after receiving a minor injury while falling off his scooter.

Angus Hardie hurt his leg on Saturday and should have recovered. Instead, he gradually became so ill that his parents called an ambulance and he was taken to a hospital in Southend.

But his condition failed to improve and he was transferred to a London hospital, where he died on Tuesday. The precise cause of death is unknown and his parents are waiting for the results of tests.

Angus had a twin brother, Ewan, and older brother Glenn, 14.

Angus was a pupil at Plumberow Primary School in Hockley, Essex, where classmates have been informed about the loss of their friend and prayers have been said for the family.

The school's headmaster, Ian Barton, said in a statement that "the heart has been ripped out of the school". He added: "The school would like to offer its heartfelt condolences to the friends and family of this extremely popular pupil."

Angus's father Robert said the family would release a statement "when we know ourselves what happened".

Joy Hale, a spokeswoman for East of England Ambulance Service, said they were called at 11pm on Saturday: "We were called to the home of a boy who was unwell. He was sick, but conscious and breathing."
