Twin mauled in fox attack could leave hospital

Worry: The twins' mother Pauline Koupparis leaving her home
12 April 2012

One of the twins mauled by a fox as she slept could be discharged from hospital today.

Nine-month-old Lola Koupparis was said to be "a lot better" as she recovered in the Royal London Hospital after Saturday's attack in her cot.

She was being kept in overnight ahead of a possible release today, while her more seriously-injured sister Isabella remained in Great Ormond Street Hospital.

They were both found crying and covered in blood after the fox went into their upstairs bedroom and attacked them in their cots in Hackney, east London.

The twins' grandmother Zoe Koupparis, from Hackney, said yesterday: "Lola is a lot better but Isabella is still sedated.

"We're really pleased about Lola. Nick and Pauline (the girls' parents) are definitely pleased but of course they're concerned about Isabella."

The Royal London Hospital confirmed that Lola's condition had improved.

A spokeswoman said: "The nine-month-old twin being treated at the Royal London Children's Hospital following an attack by a fox in her home is in a stable condition."

Lola had facial injuries and some puncture marks on her arm, while Isabella suffered injuries to her arm. Both children underwent surgery.

Family members have said that the fox attack could be "life-changing" for the twins.
