Two children among ten killed in Pakistan playground blast

Rescue: locals help deal with the effects of the blast
12 April 2012

Desperate rescuers pull away blazing wreckage, right, after a car bomb blast today near a playground killed ten people including two children.

Ten cars caught fire in the explosion that also damaged nearby houses in Quetta, the provincial capital of Pakistan's Baluchistan province. At least 20 people were injured as the country began celebrating the Muslim festival of Eid.

Police said it may have been a suicide attack by Sunni militants in the predominantly Shia area. But most of the violence in the impoverished province has been blamed on insurgents demanding more autonomy and control over the area's natural resources.
