Two men quizzed over murder of Pc Keith Blakelock

12 April 2012

Detectives hunting the killers of Pc Keith Blakelock in the Broadwater Farm riots 25 years ago have arrested two men.

The men, aged 52 and 46, were arrested at two properties in north London. They lived in the Tottenham area at the time of the 1985 riots.

The men were arrested last Friday and released on bail the same day after questioning. Police said the delay in releasing details of their arrests was for operational reasons.

The development comes after a 40-year-old man was arrested in February. He has been bailed until August.

Pc Blakelock, 40, a father of three, was hacked to death by a mob armed with knives and machetes.

Three men - Winston Silcott, Mark Braithwaite and Engin Raghip - were convicted of the murder in 1987 but in 1991 the Court of Appeal quashed the convictions amid allegations of fabrication of evidence.

Scotland Yard launched a new inquiry into the killing in 2003 saying new evidence had come to light. Police said today that the operation was ongoing.
