Two people arrested after boy, four, seriously injured from dog attack

Two people have been arrested after a four-year-old boy was injured after being bitten by a dog.

Greater Manchester Police said a 45-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man are currently in police custody having been arrested on suspicion of possessing a dog dangerously out of control.

Police were called on Monday at around 4pm to Adelphi Street in Wigan, in Greater Manchester following reports that a dog had bitten a child.

The boy is still in hospital and is undergoing surgery after sustaining a "serious" head injury following the bite by what is believed to be an American Bulldog. His condition is described as serious but stable.

The dog has been seized by police and enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Sergeant Pete Carletti from GMP's Wigan Division said today: "A young boy has been seriously injured and is undergoing surgery after being bitten by a dog last night in Wigan.

"Clearly this is an issue we are taking extremely seriously and we are carrying out a full investigation to establish exactly what happened here at this address. The dog was seized immediately last night by petmedics and as part of our enquiries we have today arrested two people who will later be questioned by officers.

"I would appeal for anyone who has information that they think may help us with our enquiries to please get in touch and tell us what you know."
