Underground chiefs assess Tube damage

13 April 2012

London Underground (LU) chiefs were today assessing just how long the sections of the Tube network affected by yesterday's explosions will have to remain shut.

An LU spokeswoman said today: "The trains in the incidents have been extensively damaged and there has been track damage at the three incident sites.

"The trains have not yet been removed as the locations are crime scenes. We don't know yet how long it will be before these areas are back in service."

The Thursday explosions meant there were no Circle or Hammersmith & City line services today and no Piccadilly line trains running between Hyde Park Corner and Arnos Grove.

There were also restricted services around the Edgware Road area on the District line and no Metropolitan line trains between Baker Street and Aldgate.

The British Damage Management Association today said that anyone in need of advice or assistance regarding damage to property as a result of the explosions could contact them.

The association's spokeswoman, Claire Johnson, said: "Smoke damage and air contamination in particular will require specialist treatment as will potential exposure to asbestos and other invasive substances."

The association has had experience in dealing with a number of incidents including the IRA outrages at Manchester, London Docklands and the City of London.
