Unions' wish list for third term of Labour

Union leaders were today unveiling a shopping list of demands for a third term of Labour government.

In the opening salvo of a internal battle over the manifesto, Britain's four biggest unions will set out their "old Left" agenda at a meeting in central London.

The five-page document, Trade Union Agenda for Labour's Radical Third Term, details policies to "re-energise Labour's core support and connect with Labour voters in the heartlands".

Topping the wish list is a halt to privatisation in the public sector, including the "discredited" private finance initiative. Other demands include a huge expansion in council house building and renationalisation of the railways.

Unison, the Transport and General, Amicus and the GMB will make clear their funding of Labour could be conditional on ministers meeting many of their demands in a third term.
