US Iraq death toll is 1,500

The number of US military deaths in Iraq has risen to 1,500 after a soldier assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force was killed in the "Triangle of Death" south of Baghdad.

In the capital, two car bombs exploded outside the Interior Ministry today, killing at least two policemen. Meanwhile talks aimed at forging a coalition government faltered over Kurdish demands for more land and concerns that the dominant Shi'ite alliance wants to set up an Islamic state.
