US probes KPMG over 'illegal tax'

THE US Government has launched a criminal probe into whether accounting group KPMG created illegal tax shelters for its clients.

'The investigation is related to tax strategies that are no longer offered by the firm,' KPMG said.

'We have assured the US attorney's office that we intend to co-operate fully.'
