Visa woman held in dawn raid on Adam Ant and Elvis

Friends: border officials raided Adam Ant's home in South Kensington

A Japanese woman was awaiting deportation today after being arrested by immigration officials at the London home of pop legend Adam Ant.

The woman, whose identity is not known, was arrested yesterday in a dawn raid on the South Kensington flat on suspicion of overstaying her visa.

About 10 officers from the UK Border Agency swooped at 6.40am. As they entered the property a small dog - called Elvis - ran out of the flat past police before turning around and going back inside.

Ant, 57, who had two number one singles in the Eighties with Stand and Deliver and Prince Charming, was questioned by officials inside the flat.

Later a woman was escorted from the building and driven away. Today a UK Border Agency spokesman said: "A 36-year-old Japanese national was arrested for immigration offences at an address in the Knightsbridge area and is now detained pending her removal from the UK."

Adam Ant's lawyer Dean Dunham told the Mirror: "This lady is one of Adam's friends. She had attempted to make the correct applications to extend her visa but the authorities had been dealing with the wrong address."
