Votes row is brewing at Young's

12 April 2012

GUINNESS Peat Group's executive director Blake Nixon has predicted 'high theatre' at brewer Young & Co's annual meeting on Tuesday as he goes into battle with the Young family for the fifth successive year.

The investment company has tabled resolutions to change Young's share structure and to vote Nixon on to the board. GPG owns a quarter of Young's shares but has only ten% of the voting rights.

Nixon admitted that GPG was unlikely to win on Tuesday, but he added: ' If we keep up the pressure, it will happen eventually.'

John Young, the colourful chairman of Young's, has written to shareholders advising them to vote against the resolutions.
