Weatherman runs into a storm

A BBC weatherman who ran the London Marathon was disqualified 300 yards from the finish.

Radio Five Live presenter Philip Avery, was pulled up by an official who spotted he was wearing a handwritten number instead of a printed one.

Mr Avery, 42, who could see the finishing line at the time, told listeners how he was suspected of cheating and denied a medal.

He admitted he had forgotten to take his race number to the starting line.

But he claimed another race official had helped him make an improvised one.
