Wheelchair protest blocks bridge

13 April 2012

A bridge in London was blocked today by protesters in wheelchairs, police said.

Around 12 people, several in wheelchairs, gathered from 7am on the southbound carriageway of Westminster Bridge causing the road to be closed, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said.

The spokesman said: "A number of people have been arrested following the protest.

"Traffic flowing northbound was not affected. Roads are expected to reopen shortly."

It is believed the demonstrators were from Disabled Action Network, but it is unclear why they were protesting.
