Wills and Kate snatch romantic moment on Honeymoon Island

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took a romantic break from their Canadian tour by paddling off to a secluded island.

The trappings of the official visit were left behind with protection officers, private secretaries and Canadian officials relegated to the shoreline as the couple canoed to the remote haven, nicknamed "Honeymoon Island".

Waiting for the newlyweds on the tiny strip of land in Blatchford Lake, North-West Territories, yesterday evening was a meal of cranberries, bannock bread and caribou steaks cooked over an open fire. They spent three hours alone there.

Earlier they saw a smokery and traditional cooking methods, complete with local herbs, right, at Dechinta, a field-based university that teaches traditional skills to the First Nation community, Canada's aboriginal people.
