Woman, 59, has second test-tube baby

A 59-year-old grandmother has become the second oldest mother in Britain by giving birth to her second test-tube baby.

Retired credit controller Sandra Lennon gave birth to Alex after IVF treatment at the controversial London Fertility Centre.

Having had two children in a previous relationship, she had Joshua, now aged two, with current husband Michael, 47, a merchant banker, after paying £17,000 for IVF treatment at the Harley Street clinic run by Professor Ian Craft. Embryos saved at the time were used for Mrs Lennon's latest pregnancy, for which the couple from Byfleet, Surrey, paid £2,500. She told the magazine Closer: "It felt like a miracle."

Professor Craft's clinic is the only one in the country willing to treat women in their fifties.
