Woman killed by brother 'wanted to help young'

The husband of a Home Office official killed by her brother-in-law has paid an emotional tribute to his wife.

Ayodele Akinsiku, 36, was stabbed to death at her Deptford flat. She had fallen out with her 28-year-old brother-in-law, Abiodun Akinsiku, who police believe killed her and then took his own life.

Ms Akinsiku's husband Rotimi was out at the time of the attack in Evelyn Street on 22 October. Bleeding profusely, Ms Akinsiku tried to reach a neighbour's flat but died at the scene.

Mr Akinsiku, an engineer, said: "She gave up her time to work at two schools and a church at weekends all because she wanted to help young people."

The couple, who were married for eight years, met in Nigeria. Mr Akinsiku said: "I met her at university and remember knowing I wanted her to be my wife."

Ms Akinsiku had been working at the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal and volunteered as a parent adviser at Deptford Green School in New Cross. She was also a governor at Grinling Gibbons Primary School, Deptford, and worked as a Sunday school teacher.
