Zeta's looking sleeker

Catherine looked stunning in a gold number at the awards

It was an outfit guaranteed to make Catherine Zeta-Jones the golden girl of the awards night.

And if they had been giving a prize for Best Hourglass Figure, the Welsh actress would have been hot favourite to be the recipient.

Ten months after the birth of her second child, Miss Zeta-Jones has not only recovered her shapely figure but enhanced it.

Having put on 50lb during the pregnancy, that was certainly no easy feat.

Showing off her pinched waist in a gold strapless gown, the Oscarwinning actress stole the show as she presented the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

She arrived at the city's Shrine Auditorium on the arm of her husband Michael Douglas.

Her classic curvaceous look owed a lot to the style of Forties and Fifties stars such as Jane Russell and Jayne Mansfield.

It was quite a contrast to the 34- year- old actress's heavilypregnant look at last year's Oscars ceremony, when she picked up a Best Supporting Actress award for Chicago.

Miss Zeta-Jones admitted having

'eaten for Wales' during her first pregnancy with her son Dylan, reaching 11st 7lb, and was similarly large second time round with her daughter, Carys.

She recently denied having used the Atkins Diet to shift the excess pounds, insisting she achieved her ideal weight through a combination of 'sensible eating' and regular exercise.

Sunday's awards night saw a major surprise when Johnny Depp was named best actor for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean.

He defeated the front-runners Sean Penn and Bill Murray, as well as Britain's Ben Kingsley.

Depp was not even on hand to bask in the glory. He was on a plane from London to Los Angeles.

Charlize Theron was named Best Actress for her portrayal of a serial killer in Monster.

Renee Zellweger added to her burgeoning collection of awards when she received the best supporting actress honour for her portrayal of a mountain woman in the Civil War epic Cold Mountain.
