A winter's tail for the fashion pack

10 April 2012

You've got to admire London's fashion fraternity for their unfaltering determination to embrace every fashion phenomenon that comes their way.

While residents of our fellow fashion capitals winced at high-shine latex leggings and snorted when Alexander McQueen sent his infamous "bumster" pants down the catwalk, in London we are yet to find a trend that's a step too far.

And so to this winter's most surprising accessory trend. The detachable fox-tail - in clip-on or keyring form - is designed to attach to your favourite handbag to give it the new lease of life the festive season demands.

The trend can be traced back to Céline designer Phoebe Philo. Last summer she unveiled a series of fur-ball keyrings which were the catalyst for this new must-have. Some found homes on Celine's multi-tone clutch bags, others on her shoulder-bags.

Now readily available in other luxury fashion houses, as well as on the high street, incarnations of Philo's tails can be spotted wagging their way around town this winter.

A cuddly stocking-filler, fur keyrings can be found at Topshop, which has a dove-grey style, and at Céline, which launched a dip-dyed fuchsia-pink version for the Christmas season.
