Brow lamination: the clever beauty trick to give you a fuller, thicker arch

The Russian brow treatment is being hailed as the new microblading (with less commitment) – and it's perfect for party season

In search of thicker, fuller brows but not quite ready to commit to microblading?

Because everyone's heard of someone who's had them done just that little bit too dark, haven't they?

Enter eyebrow lamination, a brand new semi-permanent grooming trend hailing from Russia, where, I'm told, some take their brow game very seriously.

Brow lamination works a bit like a perm and the process essentially involves straightening eyebrow hairs using a chemical solution, so that they all stand in the desired direction.

The result is a bushier, more defined yet natural-looking arch à la Cara D, leaving you with an off-duty supermodel look, requiring barely any maintenance – and quite frankly it's perfect for party season.

Intrigued? I was, so back in the summer I went down to Russian lash and brow bar BBM in Knightsbridge to try the treatment for myself.

"We are teaching the brow to go in another direction," explains Brow Bar technician Anca, explaining that the end result can last up to about a month with regular treatments. My first, should last between two and three weeks.

First Anca removes my makeup, brushes my brows through and updwards and gives them a quick tidy up with tweezers.

Next, she applies a lifting balm to the hairs using a brush, then covers the coated brows in cling film. After a few minutes she removes the excess product and applies a second volumising solution which will also hydrate the hairs, and covers them again with cling film, how long you leave each product on depends on your hair type.

Once the second product has been removed, she tints my brows (optional) to make them darker and appear fuller. To finish, she applies a nourishing serum.

In all the, treatment lasts between 45 minutes and an hour, and my eyebrows looked instantly much thicker and wider, eyes fully opened up.

The following day I used a tiny bit of pencil to fill them out and instantly received two compliments from friends on my fancy new brows at brunch. This is a clever treatment, perfect for anyone who's too scared to try microblading (me), but wants something with a bigger impact than a simple thread and tint.
