What's the buzz? Neville has a ritzy reputation but this Knightsbridge salon is keen to broadcast its down-to-earth credentials. You don’t have to be an A-lister to have your hair done here, although carrying a good handbag or a small dog in with you will help you to fit in. The staff are friendly and chatty and co-owners Neville and Elena are everywhere - chinwagging with clients, hanging out behind the reception desk and of course doing hair.

Neville and Elena’s co-director Stephen Low gave me a pre-blow dry luminescent glow treatment, designed to get the hair glossy and soft using hair oil. I was freaked out by the prospect of oil given my super-fine hair, but Stephen said: “You apply the oil where the hair needs it most - round the front, for example, where the hair is often dryest. Today’s hair oils are also dryer and more natural, making them absorbed more naturally.” Stephen applied Shu Uemura oil to my hair before sealing it in with infra-red light. My hair felt super-soft afterwards and even with its softer texture Stephen created a bouncy blow-dry - usually quite tricky with my fine locks. Meanwhile, one of the salon’s manicurists gave me an excellent shape and paint - it’s well worth having your hair and nails done at the same time here. Over the course of the day my hair fell into a sexy loose beach wave which I still had the next morning, even if though kept sticking my fingers in it to feel my now-gorgeously-soft hair. Overall, a luxurious and restorative time was had by all (well, me). Now go and treat yourself too.
