Less than a month after surprising fans with the news that she was engaged, Amanda Bynes and her fiancé have called it quits.

The 33-year-old actress first announced her engagement to Paul Michael through an Instagram video on Valentine’s Day, where she called him “the best person on the face of the earth.”

Michael, whom Bynes is said to have met in AA, frequently popped up on her Instagram page in the weeks following, posing in selfies alongside the She’s The Man actress with captions like, “My love is Paul.”

However, late last week, Bynes deleted all of her posts with Michael, prompting rumors that the pair had split.

Michael later spoke to In Touch, briefly confirming the news with, “We did.” And adding, “I love her though, she’s my best friend.”

Though neither Bynes nor Michael have revealed why they ended their engagement, In Touch added that Bynes’ conservatorship could have been a major factor, as it would prohibit Bynes from getting married without her conservator’s permission.

Bynes’ mother has served as her conservator since 2013, following the actress’ court-ordered mental health treatment after a series of bizarre incidents that included setting her pants on fire and a DUI charge.

More recently, Bynes expressed interest in contesting the terms of her conservatorship on February 22. In a since-deleted Instagram video, Bynes explained that her current treatment center costs $5,200 a month.

“There’s no reason why I shouldn’t go to a therapist who takes my insurance for $5,000 less a month,” she said. “This is why I’ve asked to see the judge next week regarding this conservatorship issue.”

While Bynes frequently updates fans on her life through Instagram, she hasn’t spoken further on her conservatorship or yet confirmed her split from Michael.
