Men at the 2019 Met Gala blurred gender boundaries to bring flamboyant looks to the red carpet

Flamboyance was the order of the day at the 2019 Met Gala. Blurring gender stereotypes with sheer tops and blue eye makeup, the men of the red carpet held their own in a sea of gowns.

Co-chair Harry Styles started the show with head-to-toe Gucci.

Walking side by side with Gucci creative director, Alessandro Michele, Styles opted for a sheer Gucci top with lace details.

Billy Porter soared into the ball dripping in gold on a litter carried by six shirtless men. Wearing a catsuit by The Blonds, Porter landed on the red carpet and spread his ten-foot golden wings in a dazzlingly camp performance.

Jared Leto also made headlines by accessorizing with a replica of his own head. Gucci models notoriously walked the Fall 2018 runway with a replica head in hand, so Leto’s nod to the fashion moment went hand in hand with his floor-length red Gucci suit.

Darren Criss' camp look was equally fierce. Sporting a multi-colored Balmain suit, the actor accentuated his blazer with a touch of blue eye makeup and David Yurman rings.

What did Insider's Men's Style Editor Geoff K. Cooper make of the male red carpet efforts?

For the 2019 installment of fashion's most major bash the theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion”, was a clarion call for creative boldness. At its crux, camp can be defined as being profusely extra in fearless nonchalance and at this year's Met, attendees were given carte blanche to stun.

Highlights for me included Billy Porter's godly wings, Ezra Miller's many eyes, Jared Leto's handheld head and Maluma's bedazzling jewelled ensemble.
