Following the 2019 Met Gala last week, celebrities stepped out yet again for another glamorous themed charity fundraiser: this time across the ocean in Venice. To celebrate the opening of this year’s Venice Biennale, stars including Karlie Kloss, Sienna Miller and Tilda Swinton arrived in style for a masquerade at Christian Dior’s Tiepolo Ball.

Held Saturday in the grand Palazzo Labia, the event recaptured old world glamour with guests dressed by the atelier in vintage-inspired creations. Karlie Kloss and Sienna Miller arrived at the 17th-century building in dramatic capes and gowns, crafted from velvet, tulle and handwoven fabrics by Bevilacqua.

The outfits were a joint effort between Dior and textile manufacturers Bevilacqua and Rubelli whose knowledge of 19th-century fabrics was invaluable.

Miller attended with her boyfriend Lucas Zwirner. They were seen on their way to the event in a boat wearing black masks.

Tilda Swinton was also in attendance, dressed in a cream coat and pleated skirt accessorised with striking pink boots. She and art restorer Toto Bergamo Rossi were seen posing together for photographers throughout the night.

Italian actor Monica Belluci was another big name at the event, posing amongst the Baroque space's lavish decorations for pictures.

Russian billionaire Dasha Zhukova was one of the lucky few to be dressed by Dior, wearing a dramatic outfit and hooded cape. She was seen with personality Derek Blasberg, Sienna Miller and Lucas Zwirner.

The event, which was themed after a legendary 1951 party thrown by Palazzo Labia’s former owner Charles de Beistegui called the “Ball of the Century”, was a spectacle which saw performances from dancers, stilt walkers and live music dazzle attendees.

It was a fitting tribute to the original event, which the atelier’s founder Christian Dior attended alongside artist Salvador Dali, who designed costumes for event performers at the time.

Rather than hopping into a standard photo booth, celebrity photographer Ellen von Unwerth immortalised the event for guests by snapping them in front of the residence’s stunning frescoes.

The Tierpolo Ball aimed to raise funds for the restoration of a fresco by artist Giambattista Tiepolo called the Castiga dei Serpenti, as well as the Mauro Codussi-designed staircase Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista.
