To be named the “Queen of Halloween” is no easy feat. With celebs now competing for the most viral costume and headline grabbing look, the stakes have never been higher. Nonetheless, Hiedi Klum has once again proved that the crown is hers.

Following a two year hiatus, this year Klum returned to her infamous, star-studded Halloween party in a full body worm costume – complete with long veiny tail and head. The German-American model was unrecognisable as she lay sprawled on the blue carpet, and even wriggled around on the floor during an interview outside her holiday party hosted at Sake No Hana at Moxy in New York.

Klum’s Halloween bash has been a staple in the holiday circuit since 2000. "When I moved to America, I immediately fell in love with Halloween and the spookiness of it. All that was missing was a fantastic party. It felt like a real opportunity for me,” Klum told the Hollywood Reporter. Following her first party, she immediately instated the rule that guests must get dressed up or else they won’t be allowed entrance.

“The majority of guests were not super dressed. So, after that, I implemented a ‘no costume-no entry’ rule. We quickly taught people that if you don’t come in a costume, you’re not getting in. The costumes get bigger and better every year. And that’s because guests know they won’t get in unless they bring it,” she told THR.

Since then, she’s been going all out with her A-list friends every October. In 2019 she terrified the world with a gory alien experiment costume which took 13 hours to pull together. In fact, she went above and beyond by sharing the process through which the terrifying prosthetics were put together - sitting in the shopfront of an Amazon store in New York as a team of experts layered faux exposed intestines and brains on the model.

Historically she works with Prosthetic Renaissance founder Mike Marino who has created prosthetics for many of her costumes. He created her memorable Planet of the Apes inspired costume in 2011 when she and then-husband Seal dressed as apes. He was also behind her legendary anatomically correct Jessica Rabbit costume in 2015 and her old woman get-up at her 2013 party.

"By me doing crazy, elaborate outfits as the host, my hope had always been that all my guests would follow. And it’s worked because, over the years, people have become increasingly more outrageous with their costumes,” Klum said.

It appears her thinking paid off. Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o went all out as Dionne from Clueless at the Halloween bash in 2018, while Bella Hadid and her then-boyfriend The Weeknd dressed as Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz. Other notably costumes this year include tech entrepreneur Elon Musk who rocked a $7500 Devil’s Champion-Leather Armor Set and German singer Kim Petras who dressed as a killer forest nymph with horns and a dress made from human hair.

Of course her family have always been there to support Klum with her all-out looks, too. Last year husband Tom Kaulitz, and children Leni, Henry, Johan, and Lou - with Klum created a short film in which she wraps her children in toilet paper only for them to transform into mummies, chasing her through the house while she attempts to hide by camouflaging her body in paint perfectly matched to the walls and marble surroundings.

“I love doing it to myself. I love watching amazing artists doing crazy things, so I’m definitely doing something because I just have to, for my own, you know?” Explained Klum as to her motivations behind her out of this world, intricate looks. “I’m a creative person, and I live for that, that’s why I get up every morning because I love it.”
