Immy Waterhouse says she has fallen in love with Serbia while filming in Balkans – but has struggled with the region’s meat-friendly diet.

The 25-year-old actor is due to return to Serbian capital Belgrade from January as filming for the third series of US fantasy series The Outpost continues.

And while she says she enjoys the country’s “amazing” culture, the actress told Insider its food scene is not the best for vegetarians like her.

“I’ll be spending six months in Serbia from January to June, before the third series [of The Outpost] airs in July next year,” said Waterhouse, who is sister of fellow actor and model Suki.

“We were there at the beginning of this year too, and it was a great experience."

“There is so much history and the people are very proud, it really feels like it is recovering from the war [in the 90s].

“It has got amazing nightlife and culture which is really great but it is not the best place for me for food as a vegetarian... It's definitely trickier for me as a vegetarian.”

Serbia is renowned for its cuisine including minced meat stuffed cabbage leaves, bean and bacon stew, and deep-fried, breadcrumbed sausage filled with cheese.

Waterhouse plays Princess Rosmund, the last surviving member of an overthrown and murdered royal family in The Outpost.

She added that she was planning to vote in the General Election on December 12 before heading off for filming, but said politics needed “a new party”.

“I read about so many young, savvy people doing cool stuff and we need them in politics,” she said. “I think we could do with a new party, representing the young voice.”

Waterhouse was speaking at a Steve Madden cocktail party held at Isabel, Mayfair, to celebrate the new London boutique opening.
