Design competition to unveil new installation at Battersea Power Station

Iconic: the famous four-points of Battersea Power Station will be lit up with an innovative 3D creation
10 April 2012

The iconic Battersea Power Station is set for an illuminating makeover this week with the unveiling of the winner of this year's 'Project Your Imagination' design competition.

One of London's most famous landmarks will be transformed by a spectacular 3D projection based on the Rubik's Cube and designed by Albanian Erjola Veliaj.

Beating competition from around the world, Erjola's winning concept was chosen by Facebook users as part of a campaign run by gin maker Bombay Sapphire.

'The Project Your Imagination' invites ideas from people for projecting wrap-around 3D images on iconic buildings in various cities around the world.

Last autumn saw a breathtaking trial run using the Queen's House at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich as a backdrop.

Bombay Sapphire Global Category Director, John Burke said: "The 'Project Your Imagination' Competition is designed to inspire people and give an outlet for the resulting imaginative thoughts in a spectacular way. We're delighted to be the first to try and capture the public's imagination in this manner and host a uniquely open competition that we hope will truly result in a breath-taking vision come to life."

The first unveiling of the winning work comes this Wednesday as part of a launch event taking place on the Thames. Representatives from the design community, along with special guests and members of the public, will board a luxury 21st Century yacht for an evening of exclusive cocktails and live music. While places on the gin cruise are limited, as the sun sets Londoners are expected to line the river's banks to catch a glimpse of the city's latest innovative design installation.
