Do you find suspenders a turn-on?

Dressed to thrill: sales of suspenders have been boosted by the likes of Lily Allen and Pixie Geldof
10 April 2012

Dita Von Teese has always been an ambassador of stockings and suspenders but, all of a sudden, she's not the only celeb who is outing her undergarments.

Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lily Allen and Pixie Geldof have all been rocking suspenders-style in recent weeks, too.

Now we find that Rihanna's Hussein Chalayan thigh-high boots held up by built-in suspenders, and Lily and Pixie trompe l'oeil suspenders (tights with suspender details), have inspired the rest of us to join in with the fad and sales of suspenders are up.

With their sexy connotations, the growing prevalence of suspenders on the street could make for a highly aroused London. So, I went to Embankment to find out if Londoners still find suspenders a turn-on.

Hell, yeah. You look at a girl in suspenders and you just want to rip them off her basically. A girl wears suspenders for a reason. She wants men to like them.

Yes
Holly, 20, accounts assistant
I've worn them and the male species seemed to like it. Wearing them makes me feel womanly, powerful, dominant and very sexy.

No
Katie, 28, civil servant
I love burlesque and I think Dita Von Teese is really sexy, but I hate following celebrity fashions so the fact that Lily Allen has started wearing them is a turn-off.

Yes
Daniel, 19, student
Basically, because there's nothing in the middle covering the essential area.

Yes
Joseph, 27, salesman
They're sexy because of the way that they grip the body. It definitely does it for me.

Yes
Natalie, 27, accountant
I think it's because they're basically underwear. I wouldn't wear them out but I have done in the bedroom. It was a big turn-on.

Yes
Adrian, 27, lawyer
On the right woman, they're great. They wouldn't work on a big girl but on Lily Allen they're all right.

Yes
James, 18, barrister's clerk
If Lily Allen wears them, then that makes them hot. Nobody has ever worn them for me but I've worn them for someone.
