Anya Hindmarch loves the high-street. In the last three years alone she’s opened a five-store village, a sober “dry drinker” off license and a chic sleep retreat. Now for her latest concept store the designer has turned her attention to the humble corner shop.
Aptly named the “Anya Mart”, it’s already proven itself one of the capital’s most in demand corner shops — with punters queuing in the rain from 7am for a 10am opening this Saturday. Honestly, fair enough. Stacked high with brand new pieces from her latest collection, including mini Lurpak butter and Fruit Pastille-replica charms, card cases and Pringle-sloganed raffia totes — as well as an exclusive mini version of her popular Universal tote bag, it’s got all your everyday non-essentials — and then some.
“I’ve always had a fascination with taking an everyday thing – a household brand, a day-to-day food item – and elevating it, using artistry and craftsmanship to turn something ordinary in something extraordinary,” explains Hindmarch.
Also in stock: plenty of other grocery inspired produce, including seven slightly surreal limited-edition candles taking scent inspo from Kellogg’s Coco Pops and Frosties, Kikkoman Soy Sauce, Heinz Ketchup and Baked Beans, Cussons Imperial Leather and Fanta Orange. Complete with a kitsch brand matched logo wrapped around the outside.
The Instagram comments are already filled with anxious shoppers asking whether everything has sold out yet, but rest assured they will be daily restocks. No promises on whether those queues will let up, mind.
