No stranger to a sustainable sartorial statement, Carrie Symonds once again used her moment in the spotlight to platform an ethical clothing brand.

Appearing alongside her fiancé, Prime Minister Boris Johnson,  for an appearance on the Pride of Britain awards, Symonds sported The Pleat Dress in Fern Green by Seraphina London.

The dress, which was inspired by the rich hues of Christmas wreaths and trees, is currently available for pre-order and is made using natural materials.

Founded by Fiona Hodges in 2014, Seraphina London’s collections are comprised of hand-printed textiles from India and the brand aims to help preserve the traditions of the artisans and craftspeople it employs.

Symonds quit her role as the Conservative Party’s Head of Communications in 2018 to become a senior adviser at non-profit ocean conservation organisation Oceana. Part of her role is to work on communications related to Oceana’s "Save the Oceans, Feed the World" initiative, so it’s no surprise that she has been seen championing sustainable designers.

Mother-of-one Symonds made her debut sustainable splash with her first outing as ‘First Girlfriend’ last July, when she wore a £120 floral midi from British high street brand Ghost, which was made from viscose, a fabric constructed from renewable wood pulp.

During an appearance at environmental awareness conference, Birdfair, last summer, Symonds also championed eco-friendly designer Justine Tabak. Tabak’s Cotton Riding House dress, which Symonds paired with green wellies and is made from a biodegradable fabric that doesn’t contain microplastics, was designed in collaboration with Liberty of London and Better Cotton Initiative, a movement Tabak says is “signing up to better, cleaner and environmentally friendly cotton as well as helping workers in that industry.”
