Converse has released intentionally dirty-looking trainers which, it is stating, enables customers to "skip the break-in period."

The “Chuck Taylor All Star Basic Wash”, are low-top offerings of the brand's best-selling Chuck Taylor style and come in two colours: either navy and white or grey and white.

On the brand's website, it says “A dirty wash treatment gives these classic Chucks a vintage look, straight out of the box.”

The launch has got the Internet up in arms, with one user tweeting: "Could get them for a 5 in charity shops looking better than that."

While another remarked: "This... This isn’t a parody?!”

This isn't the first time a brand has launched dirty treads. Last year, Gucci came under fire for selling a pair of scuffed sneaks for £615 with critics slamming the Italian maison for "commercializing poverty."
