Burberry have just become the country’s most successful fashion label after racking up sales of over 1 billion pounds in less than six months but all is not rosy for Britain’s leading heritage brands. Last week, Aquascutum announced that it had collapsed into administration and now it seems Pringle of Scotland is also experiencing difficulties.

Suggesting that a period of financial unrest may be plaguing the Scottish knitwear label which was founded in 1815, Pringle of Scotland’s collections will not be unveiled at a major London Fashion Week catwalk shows but at scaled-down presentations. While the brand insists that it will continue to maintain its presence at London Fashion Week, these new plans- as well as the departure of Carr - indicate that cut-backs have had to be made.

Britain-born Carr, 37, who previously worked for Balenciaga and Chloe, had only been at the helm of the label for 13 months.

While Carr’s future is at the moment, unknown, fashion insiders will be sad to see him go, as the talent successfully reinvented the luxury knitwear brand during his two seasons at the label.

“I want to thank Alistair for all his great efforts and contributions at Pringle,” said Jean Fang, the brand’s CEO. “We will miss him, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
