Feathers and fountains in Chanel’s exotic garden

Chanel's designer Karl Lagerfeld does what he wants, when he wants, and today he transformed the Grand Palais in Paris into a garden with three huge fountains and a string orchestra to accompany the strolling models.

Reimagining the classic Chanel suit, Lagerfeld sent out fitted bouclé jackets in cream and black — some buttoned at the back with diamond buttons, others teamed with thigh-skimming hotpants. A series of wool jackets had been snipped and shredded and were covered in tiny holes. Classic coats in navy with red trim were given the same treatment. Chanel's signature black shift-dress also came in many incarnations. Some were embellished with delicate beading in sugary lemon and pink, others had swirling appliqué details.

Feathers served as trim on dresses and most notably, on a coral gown which resembled an exotic bird.
