Is Wallis hot or not?

Best buy: embellished jacket, £75
Becky Davies10 April 2012

Wallis is for the three Ms: middle-aged, middle-class and Middle England.

But the thing that isn't middling is its value for money. The basics and capsule are particularly reasonable: a polyester-cotton trench coat, £70; white T-shirt with neck detail, £10; and long chunky-knit cardigan, £32.

Everything has stretch, and tops have extra length to hide muffin-tops. Helpfully, stock is organised into colours, then sections, such as "Boho" and Sixties, with suggestions on how to wear items appearing as tags on hangers.

The Yasmin Le Bon for Wallis collection (YLB), recently launched in select stores, is based on favourite items from the model's wardrobe. It is pricier — embroidered military jacket, £150 — but not outrageously so.

Changing rooms: whitewashed mirrored cubicles

Staff: scary in a matronly way, but helpful

Quality: well-made and great value

Best buy: embellished jacket, £75
