Stars of style took over Bond Street last night as the capital's shopping mecca was closed off for Vogue's Fashion Night Out, with Gwyneth Paltrow and Samantha Cameron among guests at parties and live music events hosted by top fashion labels and stores.

Similar star-studded late-night shopping evenings took place in a string of cities around the world including New York, Los Angeles and Paris - billed by the fashion magazine as "an international
global celebration of shopping and design".

The Prime Minister's wife was at Vogue's opening party at Asprey, while Paltrow and model Daisy Lowe were at the opening of Coach's first London flagship store. Other guests at Coach in New Bond Street included X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos.

The event, in its third year, saw designer Charlotte Dellal hand-painting shoes in her shop in Maddox Street, fashion designers Alice Temperley and Matthew Williamson meeting fans in Browns, and Johnny Borrell DJ-ing at Gap in Oxford Street.

The parties helped launch New York Fashion Week, which had its first shows last night and is a precursor for London Fashion Week, which opens next week. Williamson said the night was "a proper celebration of British fashion. It's about brand building and having fun with people who have a keen interest in fashion."

Peaches Geldof was at Asprey, while sister Pixie attended Dior's cocktail party with model Liberty Ross. Colin Firth's wife Livia Giuggioli and model Laura Bailey co-hosted a dance-off in Stella McCartney's boutique in Bruton Street, watched by British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman.

Singer Alexandra Burke and Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery were the stars of a bash at the Mulberry store.

Rupert Sanderson hosted a Seventies-themed roller disco in his Bruton Place store, while designer Roland Mouret used the event to mark his 50th birthday.
