Donald and Melania Trump's three-day state visit has come to a close, leaving behind a heap of discarded protest signs, as well as the opportunity for fashion fans to dissect the First Lady's wardrobe.

FLOTUS' state visit style hit headlines even before she touched down on British soil, thanks to a London landmark-clad Gucci dress. Since stepping off the plane at Stansted on Monday morning, the First Lady has worn a series of well thought out ensembles which have included diplomatic designer choices and royal-inspired touches.

Paying tribute to her host country, Melania wore several British brands, starting with a blouse from heritage fashion house Burberry featuring illustrations of military medals and the words 'Society'. After that, Melania plumped for iconic European brands, including a couture dress by French fashion house Dior for the state banquet at Buckingham Palace and, controversially, Dolce & Gabbana to meet the Queen.

Through her sartorial choices Melania also gave a nod towards stylish young British royals the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex.

The First Lady is known for her love of luxury but chose to rewear two ensembles during her visit. The first a Celine trench coat to Downing Street, the second, a tailored item of outerwear by Olsen twins' label The Row for the D-Day commemorations.

Recycling outfits is a rarity for Melania, but perhaps she took note from Kate Middleton, whose thrifty high-street and restyling ways have made her a relatable fashion icon to the British public.

The most royal-inspired ensemble of the trip was debuted on the final night, where a dinner at Winfield House saw Melania channel the Duchess of Sussex in a regal red caped gown by Meghan's wedding dress designer, Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy.

Throughout the three-day visit, Melania accessorised with elegant gloves and hats - a consistent part of the royal on-duty uniform. One particular headpiece was even designed by Philip Treacy, the royal family's go-to milliner.
