Yesterday in New York it fell to Peter Copping to stage a brand revival.

Unveiling his second collection for Oscar De La Renta following its founder's death from cancer last year, Copping conjured shoots of new life with a carnation motif which ran throughout the show.

Insisting that it was time for the the twee bloom to return to stylish realms once again, Copping embroidered scarlet petals onto multi layered shift dresses and unveiled neat boleros in a rich incarnation of carnation red.

A lone carnation placed on the seat of every guest in attendance assured De La Renta's faithful following that the romanticism which has long been synonymous with the brand was equally as crucial to Copping's vision.

When it came to the gowns - the pieste de resistance of any De La Renta show - the palette expanded to include duck shell blue, salmon and jet black.

Evoking a flower in its fullest bloom, the silhouette was voluptuous with dresses expanding outwards as they neared the ground. Copping demonstrated his skill as an eveningwear showman with ripped silk appliqué details.

A traditionalist at heart, Copping served no threat to De La Renta's faithful following but instead insisted that their hero's label would be safe in his hands.
