On Sunday evening Priyanka Chopra hosted a bridal shower to celebrate her upcoming nuptials to Nick Jonas.

The actress hired out Tiffany & Co's flagship store on Fifth Avenue, holding the exclusive bash in their Blue Box Cafe. The jewellery brand holds a special place in the couple's heart, as it is reported that Nick shut down the London branch in order to choose the 4-carat sparkler which he then presented to his fiancée.

The 36-year-old actress looked every inch the bride-to-be as she arrived in a ivory silk dress, which featured a ruched bustier bodice and plume-filled skirt.

Although the dress was the perfect ethereal look for the occasion, the ensemble has been the cause of much controversy due to the designer behind it.

The elegant frock was created by Marchesa, an American brand created by Harvey Weinstein's ex-wife, Georgina Chapman who was married to the disgraced Hollywood producer from 2007 to earlier this year.

Priyanka is not the first A-lister to wear the designer in the wake of the #MeToo movement. Scarlett Johansson was the first to debut Chapman's designs following the Weinstein scandal back in May. But, Priyanka, none the less, has faced backlash for her decision.

Following days of controversy, the actress has now spoken out defending her decision, telling WWD: “Georgina’s a friend of mine.

"It's not her fault. And I don’t think it’s right to take it out on a self-made woman what somebody in her life did.”

Priyanka, who has been friends with Georgina for many years, went on to say: "I’ve known her for years, and that was a beautiful gown, and deserved to be worn by a bride-to-be. And it made me feel like a princess. It was the right choice.”

Chapman's brand continues to struggle even after her divorce to Weinstein earlier this year and cancelled its New York Fashion Week show in February .

More than 70 women have accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct in alleged attacks dating back decades.
