Just as New York Fashion Week was coming to a close and editors prepared to hotfoot it to London, Ralph Lauren ferried his models, celebrity fans and international press one hour north of Manhattan to Bedford, New York, for a show staged inside his garage.

No ordinary garage, this was a vast two-story affair decorated with some of the world's most esteemed and legendary cars. The designer's own, of course.

Inviting a number of celebrity guests into this world of enduring style, Lauren welcomed Katie Holmes, Jessica Chastain, Diane Keaton and Poppy Delevingne onto the front row to watch the likes of Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Taylor Hill model his latest collection.

"My cars have always been an inspiration to me. I see them as moving art," he said.

Heavily referencing his much-loved collection in this latest sartorial offering, Lauren showcased high gloss bodices to his evening gowns and racing references on zipped-up waterproof jackets.

His satin slips in Ferrari red and black shimmered like oil from an engine while polished patent dresses saw the light bounce off as precisely as if it were freshly painted bodywork.

Prince of Wales check and houndstooth tailoring also took to the catwalk on both male and female models via trench coats, buttoned-up bustiers and suit pants.

Showcasing his latest menswear Purple Label collection alongside his womenswear for the first time, there was a palpable sense of non-gendered power dressing with high-impact, robust pieces forming the backbone of both collections.

The immersive experience was made available to consumers worldwide via live streams, while selected items - including the houndstooth Celia pump and the bucket bag - were made available for purchase before they even hit the runway.

Following the show Lauren and his guests attended an intimate dinner within the garage where a menu inspired by The Polo Bar was served.
