The otherworld... Giles Deacon unveils fairytale creations

At London Fashion Week, no one creates a fairytale quite like Giles Deacon. A master in the art of fashion theatrics and drama, Deacon is revered for his ability to go against the grain.

His latest show, staged last night in a grand room within the city's prestigious Stationers' Hall, was typical of the designer who last year sent four models down the catwalk in gargantuan feather-trimmed swan hats. True to form, an interest in keeping up with trends and mass movements in fashion appeared to be far from his mind last night.

Instead a unique collection which was impossible to pigeon hole was unveiled on the catwalk.

A shattered glass motif featured on puff-ball princess gowns and on short, swinging dresses.

"It was supposed to be romantic but also dramatic" said Deacon after the show.

Apparently inspired by Greek mythology, Deacon detailed dresses and tabard tops with images of Pegasus - the divine winged white horse. Hats trimmed with purple human hair - the handiwork of Stephen Jones - continued the theme of unworldliness.

This was a unique offering but also one in which Deacon's design signatures were apparent. Laser cut leather - as seen in his last spring summer offering - featured on sculpted mid-length dresses while sharp white puritan collars - another favourite of the designer's - lent an eccentric edge to floor sweeping gowns.

After nine years at the helm of his own label Deacon is one of London Fashion Week's biggest names. The designer, who returned to the capital's schedule after a brief hiatus in Paris, unveiled his latest offering to an audience that included Kelly Brook.

London Fashion Week ends this evening.
