British retail chain Topman invited its customers to continue their love affair with the Nineties today as it kicked off London Collections Men.

Opening the four day menswear showcase, the retailer - which has previous when it comes to celebrating the fashion world's preoccupation with all things 1990's- unveiled natty suits, wide-leg velour trousers and floppy beanie hats on a catwalk housed in the underbelly of University of Westminster.

Recalling the swarms of Bristol art students who, during the dance music revolution, stomped the streets of the city by day and frequented trance clubs after dark, the Topman man for autumn/winter 16 is a dishevelled character who wears his pyjamas to lectures and layers a satin kimono over a laddered cashmere sweater.

Coats, also key to his look, came in oversized shapes today with one dogstooth style among the most covetable on the catwalk.

Clearly keen to evoke a relaxed, eclectic sensibility, the collection was purposely chaotic with velvet tracksuits presented alongside marl grey sweaters which were cut to hang loose.

Flocked floral shirts, worn underneath tank tops looked certain to delight the Topman shopper with designs on becoming the next Harry Styles while nearly cut flying jackets will have more broad ranging appeal.

Among the most blatant dedications to the Nineties was a series of bleached denim suiting which was showcased alongside wallet chain's sporting the peace symbol.

Topman's production was quickly followed with a brief speech from London Collections Men chair Dylan Jones who opened the capital's 8th men's fashion showcase flanked by the event's ambassadors Tinie Tempah, David Gandy and international addition Hu Ling.

Declaring the event "the biggest and best" in its history Jones said "LCM owns London". Adding: "Welcome to the greatest fashion capital in the world."
