An annual highlight of the international showbiz calendar, the Venice Film Festival attracts one of the most glittering guestlists of the year.

And while individual film photocalls welcome actors and actresses in their best daywear, it is the evening red carpets that see the most stylish offering.

So far this year the event has played host to a number of stars, including Emma Stone, Alicia Vikander, Dakota Fanning, Eva Herzigova, Amy Adams, Sophie Turner and Barbara Palvin.

Standing out on the first night of the week-long event was Emma Stone, who wore a metallic Atelier Versace gown with heavily fringed hemline detailing at the opening of her new film La La Land.

Notably absent was Stone's co-star Ryan Gosling, despite which she spoke fondly of him. "It’s wonderful to work with somebody you know, trust and respect so much. He’s my buddy."

Stepping up the next night was Alicia Vikander, who predictably wore a Louis Vuitton gown - she is the face of the brand - with intricate detailing and an unexpectedly delicate flared-sleeve.

Dakota Fanning went on to impress in a mermaid-inspired dress with shimmering sequins, while a pregnant Teresa Palmer stunned in a heavily-beaded blush pink Prada gown.
