One thing we Brits are famous for is having a good old moan about the weather. Of course, it’s not often we have as much of an excuse to do so as we have had this “summer”. If you blinked and missed the premature sunny spell back in March that flooded the capital’s parks and beer gardens with bare legs and happy faces, the forecast since has proven to be a godsend for the real hardcore complainers among us — and a pain in the backside for the rest. It’s little wonder, then, that those restricted by the boundaries of the M25 have been left feeling short-changed.
But, as they say, every dark cloud has a silver lining — and this one can be found on the high street. As we’ve been keeping our umbrella-shielded eyes on the skies, this season’s summery stock has been left hanging on the rails. And while hopes remain determinedly high that the weather will sort out its act before the shorter days set in once again, they are arguably not high enough to justify spending more than spare change on any wardrobe rejuvenation.
So as the sales draw to a close and the printed sundresses, strappy sandals and knickerline shorts are still in retail situ, there couldn’t be a better time to snap up a few of those optimistic summer bargains.
