With unlimited outdoor exercise now encouraged and the National Trust reopening some of its parklands and gardens as well as coastal routes, the lack of open public toilets has become an issue.

Sure, men have a discreet method at their disposal, but what about women? There’s nothing subtle about squatting behind a bush, your entire lower half exposed and no toilet paper in sight. This is what roadside pubs were for, but with pubs and public toilets closed for the foreseeable, we’ve had to turn to drastic measures.

Shewee, the company that produces the namesake product, allows women to go about their business discreetly, while standing, exactly like a man would and without exposing herself.

The brand has seen its sales of the product increase by 700 per cent in the UK since lockdown began.

So we’re calling it: 2020 is the summer of the Shewee.

According to a Shewee spokesperson, the device has been popular for social distance park dates as well as key workers such as delivery drivers who do not currently have access to public loos.

“We’ve seen a huge increase in sales these last few weeks," a spokesperson tells the Standard. "People are desperate to go outside and exercise, but there are no public toilets open. Some men have no issue with this, but us women what do we do? With the Shewee, you can go for a wee without removing any of your clothing. Which makes using one discreet, which is essential whilst out in public.”

They added that Shewee had a call from a lady last week who was meeting her grandson in a park but was worried about needing the loo - she purchased both the Shewee and Peebol so she could go discreetly in her car, as she didn’t feel comfortable peeing in the park.

“Unlike our Shewee, the Peebol is unisex. It’s basically a pocket sized toilet. The Peebol is a bag filled with rapidly absorbing granules, which turn urine into a solid, non-odour and non-spill gel. So, you could use a Peebol in your car, go to meet your family member, and when you get home you can pop the contents on your compost heap as it is biodegradable.”

Shewees start from £4.99 and you can buy one here, shewee.com. Thank us later.
