Charity beauty workshop gives expert advice to cancer sufferers

Beauty tips: Alice Hart-Davis at last year's Beauty Editors Day

Londoners are being offered one-to-one beauty and skincare advice at Selfridges Beauty Editors Day on Thursday 29 September by Look Good... Feel Better, the beauty industry's charity which supports women with cancer.

The charity was set up in 1994 by the Cosmetics, Toiletry and Perfumery Association and offers free make-up workshops through a network of hospitals and cancer support centres nationwide, to help women manage the visible side-effects of cancer treatment.

LGFB workshops are now available in 50 places across the UK and have the backing of the beauty industry. The workshops are run by trained beauty professionals who volunteer their time and their expertise.

"I was frightened to see how much hair had fallen out overnight and shocked at how I looked in the mirror," says Kate Tijou, who attended an LGFB workshop.

"I can't tell you how LGFB it helped me. I can now make myself look like the me I used to be, not the me who happens to be a cancer patient."

Next week, for the fifth Beauty Editors Day, Evening Standard beauty writer Alice Hart-Davis is teaming up with Clarisonic, the makers of the super-effective sonic cleansing brush, to offer advice, beauty gossip and a goody-bag.

Appointments cost £20; all proceeds go to the charity. Booking is essential; call the hotline on 0800 138 8140 to reserve a place.
