The increasing bust size of British women has been revealed - and the results are quite dramatic.

Government statistics show how the average cup size has from up from a 34B to a 36DD. Lingerie brand Bluebella has used this data to charted this evolution, using celebrity icons as our guide, from Jane Fonda to Kim Kardashian. You just have to look at your Instagram to see how our feeds are dominated by fuller figured women.

But why have women's bodies changed?

It's a mixture of different lifestyle factors such as diet and fitness - and let's not forget plastic surgery.

Bluebella’s chief executive Emily Bendell said: “Better health, diets, improved fitness and the trend towards bigger and often surgically enhanced busts make Miss Average from today barely recognisable from her 1967 counterpart when it comes to her figure.”

Between the end of 1960s and the 1970s, bust sizes increased because women were invested in healthier lifestyles. But when breast enhancement surgery first entered the scene in the 1980s, the average breast size grew again. Cosmetic surgery was becoming so common in 1990s that there was a rise of celebrity augmentations - none so famous as Pamela Anderson - which continued to impact on future years.

However, the changes of diet and fitness routines along with surges in obesity during 2000s meant the end of the 34 inch bust and the growth of the 36 one.

Below is a list of voluptuous celebrities’ bust size:

1967: Jane Fonda, 34B

1970s: Barbara Streisand, 34C

1980s: Daryl Hannah, 34D

1990s: Halle Berry, 34DD

2000s: Scarlett Johansson, 36D

2010s: Kim Kardashian, 36DD

These government statistics have been adapted to a study from Bluebella.
